1. POOR ATTENDANCE OF OFFICIALS AND CORPORATORS AT DISASTER MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES WORKSHOP

Navi-Mumbai-Disaster-5A Disaster Management guidelines workshop was organized at NMMC. The most significant point that came up during the seminar was that, geographically Navi Mumbai is claimed to be one of the most dangerous city of the country. The Disaster Management Guidelines workshop held at NMMC highlighted that Navi Mumbai is one of the most dangerous city, geographically. In the seminar, 31 types of natural as well as man-made disaster were pointed in Maharashtra state out of which 26 were in Navi Mumbai. Present as the chief guest was the Director of Yashda NGO, Milind Vaidya who addressed the audience with the information. In his speech he said that it was not just floods but issues like tsunami, cutting down of mangroves that could prove fatal for the city. BYTE MILIND VAIDYA DIRECTOR YASHDA The workshop was attended by Deputy Mayor Shahsikant Birajdaar, corporator Vittal More amongst other city corporators. We spoke with Deputy Mayor Shashikant Birajdar who said that there was an urgent need of planning to fight these issues. If it would have been a commercial project, everybody would have been present to get their share of pie but unfortunately this workshop saw poor attendance of corporators and reflected their lack of interest in public welfare. Out of the 88 city’s corporators only 20 thought it necessary to attend this workshop which reflected poorly on the corporation. With cameraperson Dyaneshwar Mali, Rajeev Mishra for NMTV News.
