1298-3Known for its ambulance service in Mumbai and Kerala, 1298 ambulance service inaugurated one its software control room at Grand Medical College in Marine Drive. Present during the inauguration was Mumbai Regional Congress President Kripashankar Singh, MP Priya Dutt and MP Milind Tevde and Mumbai Sheriff Indu Shahani. Ambulance provider 1298 which is a player in city’s Emergency Medical Services initiative launched a high-tech control room. The control room that can be reached by dialing 1298 is equipped with a new US software with 33 medical protocols. The 24 x 7 control room in Kalina will be manned by trained staffers who are conversant in English, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil and Malayalam. The software was unveiled at a function attended by MPs Milind Deora and Priya Dutt, MLAs Kripa Shanker Singh and Sanjay Dutt and Sheriff Indu Shahani, who acknowledged that EMS was the need of the hour. However, Kripashankar Singh did accept that such NGOs should provide their service in rural areas as well. The 1298 fleet has increased from 10 ambulances in 2005 to the current 51.
