16 YEARS HAVE PASSED BUT KALWA VITAWA BRIDGE YET TO BE COMPLETED

thane-bridge-1Despite the proposal for constructing the Kalwa Vitawa Bridge has been approved, it has been 16 years but the construction is yet to see the light of day. The proposal of construction of a bridge below the railway lines connecting Thane and Kalwa in Vitawa was approved in the TMC general body meet in 1992. Despite of the approval, the proposal was wedged due to technical grounds of the Central railway and other administrative reasons. However, it took 2 years to complete all these complications. In the year 2001, TMC allotted rupees 5 crore 91 lakh for the construction. But seeking permission from the Central railway before the application of every new procedure was compulsory. A part of the construction had begun and the next step that is to put in slabs and mega blocks was sent to the central railway for approval. But since then the proposal has been pending bringing a standstill to the construction work. With delays, TMC has estimated additional expenses. When we spoke to the commissioner, he clearly mentioned that along with TMC, Central railway is also accountable for the work and therefore, support is expected from their side too. But this lack of responsibility on the part of TMC and central railway is affecting the lives of vehicle drivers, school students and villagers of Vitawa.
