The RTO’s decision to canceling permits of taxis which are more than 25 years old has started worrying the taxi drivers in the city. Out of 55000 taxis in the city around 8000 taxis are running on roads for more than 25 years, which is against the RTO rules and therefore their permit needs to be cancelled. However, this has led to unrest amongst the taxi drivers as if RTO implements the law, the 14000 drivers in the city would become jobless. This decision has also upset the passengers traveling to South Mumbai. According to them, RTO’s decision should be implemented on private taxis.
