JITENDRA AWHAD ON DIGHA DAM With election round the corner it’s not surprising that politicians who are hardly seen working on public issues suddenly wake up from their deep slumber. So did Thane’s NCP leader Jitendra Awhad. The MLC recently shared with the media that a recent study had shown that if minor repairs are done on the Digha dam, it could supply around 50 MLD water to Thane city and solve water crisis to a certain extent. At present around 16 MLD of water is accumulated in the Digha dam. If the height of the dam is increased, it will increase the capacity of the dam. The natural water reservoirs at Yeur can also be utilized to accumulate water, informed the study committee. From Thane, Manoj Singh for NMTV News. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PAY STAMP DUTY AT BANKS TOO After offering stamp duty vending services at post office branches, the state is now planning to start similar services at nationalized, cooperative and rural banks across the state. In an attempt to boost the collection of stamp duty and make stamp duty collection easier, the government is planning to offer these services at most branches of nationalized, cooperative and rural banks. In 2004, the state had decided to decentralize the collection of stamp duty. The decision was taken following the massive fake stamp paper scam masterminded by Abdul Karim Telgi. The government also introduced franking of documents to minimize the use of stamp paper. Government officials confirmed that no new licenses have been issued to stamp vendors since the Telgi case and existing licenses of vendors have not been renewed. Post offices currently offering this service in Mumbai include those at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Secretariat, Mantralaya, Andheri, Malad, Borivli (W), Chembur, Vashi, Thane (city) and Kalyan.
