At least 450 doctors under the banner of Maharashtra State Gazette Medical Officers Organization across the state, went on mass casual leave for two days. They are protesting the abolition of their posts and the proposal to send them to rural primary health centers and district hospitals. About 2,700 of 8,700 sanctioned posts in rural hospitals are currently vacant. In Mumbai, 53 doctors are on protest leave. The Directorate of Health Services proposes to abolish 400 posts in the state, including that of medical superintendent, casualty medical officer, resident medical officer and blood transfusion officer. It wants to transfer 400 doctors to fill up vacancies in district and rural hospitals. The mass leave inconvenienced many patients. Bureau reports – NMTV News.
