Maharashtra breaches the 7 lakh mark; Mumbai accounts less than 600 COVID cases

In a highest single day spike, Maharashtra has reported the grim milestone of 7 lakh COVID19 cases the death toll due to pandemic in the state also raised to 22,794 with 329 fatalities. Now there are 1, 65,921 active cases in the state.

The case fatality rate is at 3.24%.

On August 20, the state had seen a record rise of 14,492 in the cases of the viral infection.

The BMC has said that Mumbai alone has reported a total of 1, 21,012 cases so far. As many as 6,693 people have succumbed to the viral infection in the city. With 1,236 patients being discharged from hospitals during the day, the number of recovered Covid-19 patients increased to 93,897.

The civic body said that over 5.53 lakh Covid-19 tests have been conducted in the city so far. The growth rate of positive cases in Mumbai has decreased to 0.82 per cent, while the doubling rate of cases has improved to 85 days.

Currently 12, 53,273 people are in home quarantine and 33,668 people are in institutional quarantine.

The total number of positive cases increased to 1,37,678 in the county’s financial capital, including 17,931 active cases, 1,11,967 recovered cases and 7,474 deaths, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Moreover, Dharavi, Asia’s biggest sum area, reported 12 new virus cases. With this, total number of cases in that area rose to 2,725 including 2,375 discharges and 90 active cases, the civic body added.
