After orders from the State Home Ministry, 700 police personnel of the Navi Mumbai police have been deputed in Gondiya and Ratnagiri. The orders come despite the Navi Mumbai police being short staffed. It is a known fact that the Navi Mumbai Police is weak when it comes to the numbers of manpower. But despite this, the State Home Ministry has directed the Navi Mumbai police to send 700 police personnel from various departments of the Navi Mumbai police force to Gondiya, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri. There are 2700 police personnel in the Navi Mumbai Police force working in traffic, security across 15 police stations that comes in the Navi Mumbai jurisdiction. DCP N D Chavan assures that the posting of officers from one city to the other and vice versa is a part of the election process and in no way this will affect the functioning of the Navi Mumbai police force. According to reports there was a demand of 900 police personnel from the Navi Mumbai police commissionerate but after deliberations, the state settled on 700. 200 of these will be sent from April 9 while the rest will be sent from April 18. The police have taken weapons from 300 persons who had the license to carry a weapon but as a precautionary measure the police will keep their weapons during the election period. In order to ensure that the weapons with persons having licenses are not misused, the Navi Mumbai police has taken the 258 weapons from 300 persons.
