An RTI application filed by two social workers over illegal constructions found that 82% of the offices of political parties in Thane were unauthorized. Through the RTI it was found that out of 93 offices of various political parties in Thane, 76 were illegal. Shiv Sena, which has been ruling the municipal corporation for a long time tops the list of having maximum number of unauthorized party offices, followed by the Congress, which has been ruling the state for 10 years. The matter came up during a hearing on a PIL against unauthorized constructions in Thane city at the Bombay high court. The court issued a notice to the municipal commissioner of TMC, Nandkumar Jantre, asking him to file an affidavit within a week on action taken against unauthorised constructions in the city. The court has also asked Jantre to be present in the court with details of action taken against the unauthorized constructions and the errant municipal officials. The court has instructed to lodge offences against office bearers of political parties under relevant sections of the MRTP Act.
