93 OVERLOADED TRUCKS SEIZED AT VASHI

loaded-truck-1Around 93 carrier vehicles which were overloaded were seized by the Vigilance department of the Transport department. The vehicles were seized while coming from the Mumbai Port Trust at the Vahsi toll post. A surprise check was conducted by the Vigilance department at Vashi toll post where 93 overloaded vehicles were caught. Although all the drivers fled from the spot, the department found that the vehicles were carrying around 20-25 tonnes of goods above the prescribed limits for every goods carrier. The operation, which is considered one of the biggest in the history of the transport department, is expected to continue for another day. The seized vehicles mostly loaded with iron coiled sheets and Soya bean oil to be exported were headed towards Khopoli and Tarapore. With this operation, the department is expected to earn around Rs 25 lakh. As of now, 10 vehicle owners have paid the fine amounting to Rs five lakh. Bureau report NMTV
