After making Sarkar and Sarkar Raj against the backdrop of underworld and politics, Bollywood director Ramgopal Varma is back to his favourite theme – horror films. The maker of Raat, Bhoot is now coming up with yet another film that will “scare” the audience –Phoonk. According to Ram Gopal Varma, Phoonk is a conflict between belief and atheism. He has said one can brush off dark forces as superstitions, but realizes it when he experiences it. The film is loosely based on the Telugu novel Tulasi Dalam. It is not the same story, says Varma but when he was in college, he read the novel and it created a tremendous impact on me. BYTE Phoonk is the story of a confirmed atheist whose belief systems are shaken up when his loved ones are subjected to unspeakable horrors by forces whose very existence his rational mind refuses to accept. It is also the story of a fanatical devotee who is forced to turn her back on God in the face of traumatic experiences. The main cast of the film sees Sudeep playing the character of Rajeev, Amruta Khanvilkar playing Arti and Ahsaas Channa playing Raksha. The horror element in the film is said to have been blended quite well with the emotional component, making the viewer relate to the situations and characters of the film. Looks like after Bhoot, RGV is all set to scare audience with Phoonk. Sana Warsia – NMTV News.
