The All India Congress Committee has made an assessment report on the harm that rebel Narayan Rane can do on Congress. The report has been prepared in view of volatile developments in the state The State Congress is literally keeping on eye on every move of Narayan Rane, as the sulking Revenue Minister, who switched his loyalties in 2005, is now desperate over the goings on within the party and the Vilasrao Deshmukh led Democratic Front government. Well-placed sources from the party say that the All India Congress Committee had, only a few days ago, prepared a confidential assessment report on the state of affairs in Maharashtra. A high powered group appointed by the AICC went to great lengths to study the expected developments in the state and most importantly, on the Shiv Sainik turned Congressman Rane’s possible revolt by tendering his resignation from the DF government, sources said. While speaking to mediapersons at Vidhan Bhavan recently, Narayan Rane replied in affirmative that over a month ago he had offered to resign from the ministry in a meeting with party chief Sonia Gandhi. However leaders with the mindset will not accept easily that Narayan Rane, who is bent on destablising the Sena base would become the chief minister at this juncture when the Sena supported Congress’ candidate Pratibha Patil for the president election and NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar after a gap of years went to Matoshree to have a meeting with Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
