Alleging major errors in the functioning of the EVMs used in the state assmebly elections held recently, all the 12 candidates of the Chembur constituency have demanded for re-contest. While the new government would be formed soon, the elections held in the Chembur constituency have come under controversy. The constituency had seen Congress’s candidate and the Social Justice Minister Chandrakant Handore winning the elections. However, the defeated Third Front’s Deepka Nikhalje along with other canidates of the constituency have alleged major errors in the functioning of the EVMs here. They have alleged that serial number of the Electronic Voting Machine used at the time of voting day and at the time of counting day was not the same. A total of 16 EVMs had this error, they said. This error was also reported at the time of counting day to the presiding Election Officer but there complaint was not taken into consideration. The opposing candidates alleged that the Government machinery was favoring the Congress candidate.
