The elections for the Council President and Vice President is soon going to be held at Panvel Municipal Council. Two candidates have nominated their names for this post. The election for the new President and Vice President for Panvel Municipal Council is scheduled to be held on 19th June. The election will be held with the completion of 2.5 years in office by the Panvel municipal Council President Prashant Thakur. Chief Officer of Panvel municipal council Anil Dongre gave us more insight and informed that Prashant Thakur from Congress party and Sunil Mahed from NCP have submitted their nomination forms for the elections. In this election, 38 councilors will be casting their votes, which will include 15 councilors of Congress party, 7 councilors of NCP, 9 councilors of PWP, 4 from Shiv Sena and 3 from BJP. It must be noted that Congress and NCP were in alliance during the Lok Sabha elections but this time both the parties are in opposition. Reliable sources reveal that Prashant Thakur may not continue as the PMC’s President as all the political parties’ councilors, except Congress are likely to vote for the NCP candidate limiting Prashant Thakur’s tenure as PMC President to only 2.5 years.
