Lack of proper floodgates to prevent the rising level of creek water in the city during monsoons may lead to flooding in Vashi this year. The monsoons are two weeks away and the floodgates have not been repaired as of yet. Its not even monsoon yet and still water accumulation is being seen across the city for various reasons and looks like even now NMMC is not taking this as their top priority. The floodgates that would prevent the rising creek water during monsoons from entering the city have not yet been repaired. Flood gates have been constructed to stop water from entering the city which includes the holding pond at Vashi village, sec 10, sec 12 and sec 8 of Vashi. However, for the last many years neither have the flood doors been repaired nor has it seen any kind of maintenance work. Ultimately, the rising level of water fills out the holding pond which is filled with debris and garbage. Finally the water seeps into the city. A similar situation was seen in Vashi recently when water from the clogged holding pond had seeped into the city, flooding the entire area (CLIPPING MAY 6). According to the Vashi ward officer, Balkrishna Patil, repair work is ongoing at the floodgates situated at sec 8, Vashi. However, no repair work is being seen here. If the condition in the city is any indication then monsoon this year will come with a bundle of nightmares. With cameraperson Rajendra Prasad, Sudhir Sharma for NMTV News.
