AND MEET COMMISSIONER OF POLICE RAMRAO WAGH ON WINNING THE MAHATMA GANDHI PEACE AWARD 2008

Streaight-tak-3Commissioner of Police Ramrao Wagh was conferred the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Award 2007 at the hands of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in the presence of Home Minister R R Patil. In the past, Ramrao Wagh was conferred the D. G.’s Insignia in 1994 and police medal in 1995 for meritorious service. The celebrated IPS visited the NMTV Studio along with his wife and met the NMTV team headed by NMTV Editor-in-Chief Ravi Subbaiah. The CP shared his experience and feelings on winning the award on NMTV’s Straight Talk. Commissioner of Police Ramrao Wagh has been widely commended for the significant role that he played 1992 Sangli riots post Babri mosque issue and the murder of popular lawyer and peace committee member Akbar Patel in Aurangabad. Not many know that, he was the 12th rank holder in SSC, the first rank holder in Nagpur University who served as the lecturer in physics before joining the state police force. He has served as SP, Sangli, Ahmednagar, Amravati, Addtl. CP of Mumbai, CP Aurangabad, SPl. IG Railways and JT. ACB, Mumbai before taking over the Navi Mumbai CP on 1st August 2006. No one can forget the crucial role he played in solving the case of historical importance of dacoity with multiple gang rapes in Kothewadi – Ahmednagar. Not surprisingly, that has had the most powerful impact on him so far.
