ANDHERI SHOKEEPERS FEAR RAHABILIATAION DUE TO METRO RAIL PROJECT

Metro-railAround 250 shopkeepers situated near Navrang Cinema in Andheri are facing doom due to the lack of rehabilitation plans for them with the development plan of the Metro rail project. The shopkeepers are planning to go on a indefinite hunger strike if decisions are not made soon, reports The Metro rail project of MMRDA and Relliance Energy is standing as a death knell for the shopkeepers of Andheri. MMRDA has decided to bring down around 250 shops and buildings near Navrang Cinema at Andheri to facilitate this project. Protesting against this decision, the President of Andheri Shopkeepers Association spoke with NMTV News. Shopkeepers too stated that MMRDA has not yet given them any assurances of providing them with rehabilitation. It may be recalled that under the development plan, the road alongside these shops would be broadened affecting the shops situated nearby. MMRDA has decided to rehabilitate the affected shops at Vashi and Mankurd but the shopkeepers have refused to budge from their place and have decided to go on a hunger strike if decision was not made soon.
