Chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has asked chief secretary Johny Joseph to pay special attention to the disposal of official files, noting that files often move backward but not forward. Earlier Social activist Anna Hazare met CM Deshmukh to ask him to tackle official delays. As per state law, files must not remain at an officer’s table beyond seven days. Chief Secretary Johny Joseph has been directed by the CM Vilasrao Deshmukh to look into not only the speed, but also the quality of work put into the disposal of files. He will also maintain a confidential tally of the number of files disposed of by an officer. The Chief Secretary Johny Joseph has assured CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, Anna Hazare and Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil that punitive action would be taken against those found guilty of delaying the disposal of files. Anna Hazare alleged that unpunctuality and absenteeism among government officers was one of the reasons for the low output.
