After observing a day’s bandh, the state has once again postponed the implementation of VAT till the end of November. As planned, with the state not showing any interest on discussing the demands of merchants in regards to VAT, the merchants had observed a day’s bandh. Following this, the state has once again postponed the date of its implementation from end of October to end of November. Last when the merchants had protested VAT implementation, the state had postponed its implementation for 6 months. However, in the six months period there were no discussions done on the demands being made by the merchants or to resolve the protest. So FAM and GROMA headed the protest under which the merchants stopped taking supplies from the 20th of September. On 3rd a one day bandh was observed and on 13th, the merchants had decided to go on an indefinite strike. Hence the state once again postponed the date of its implementation. However, the protest is affecting the market and end consumer with prices of essential commodities rising.
