ASH WEDNESDAY MARKS THE BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD OF SACRIFICE FOR CITY CHRISTIANS

ash-2Christians across the world attended the Ash Wednesday service in the church which marks the beginning of the period of sacrifice. For the Western Christian calendar, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs forty days Before Easter. Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The Roman Catholic Church, observes Ash Wednesday by fasting, abstinence from meat, and repentance-a day of contemplating one’s transgressions. We spoke with the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Fr Joaquin D’costa who said that this is the season of making sacrifices. He said that the Ash acts like a reminder that we have come from dust and we will go back to dust. With cameraman Vivek Gaikwad Jan Cabral for NMTV News.
