Following the frequent accidents that are occurring in Bandra Bandstand and the rising number of couples loosing their lives there, BMC has finally taken a step to prevent further accidents by inaugurating a warning bell at the hands of Mayor Dr Shubha Raul. In an attempt to increase awareness among people who frequent the area, Mayor Shubha Raul inaugurated a warning board at Bandra Bandstand. The board highlights the importance of ensuring safety and the timings of high and low tides. It also mentions the names of the numerous people who have lost their lives here by drowning. The bells will be monitored by security guards who will cautiously ring it aloud when there is high tide. The locals of the area have also suggested that as the Koli community in the area are excellent swimmers, they could be employed as life guards. We spoke with Mayor Shubha Raul who said that the couples who frequent the area are often not aware of the approaching high tide but the sirens could surely alert them. She also added that thorns may be set in the area to prevent couples from visiting there. However according to a few reports Mayor Dr Shubha Raul’s move to play guardian angel to canoodling couples at Bandstand, Bandra, backfired when they quickly dispersed no sooner they saw her approaching.
