The top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to conduct a brainstorming session for its elected representatives in the state Legislative Assembly and council to prepare them in advance for the budget session. The dismal performance of the BJP – the leading Opposition party – in the winter session, which concluded last month at Nagpur, has not gone down well within the top decision-makers in the organisation. The eight-week-long crucial budget session in Mahatrashtra will commence on March 18. The thinktank in the state unit pledges it will leave no stone unturned to rock the ruling Congress-NCP in the budget session of state in Mumbai. The leader of the Opposition, Eknath Khadse, who has not been able to make an impact so far, is being talked to by key leaders to see how his expertise on matters related to economics would work to the Opposition’s advantage in the future. Khadse was the state finance minister when Shiv Sena and BJP were in power between 1995 and 1999. It is no secret that there is no one in BJP to match all India general secretary Gopinath Munde’s oratorial skills in the state Assembly. A senior BJP leader is reported to have said that their MLAs and MLCs raised pertinent questions and debated on current topics on the floor of the House in the last session. But the desired impact was clearly missing.
