The election commission was to announce the new voters list of Maharashtra by 31 July but no announcement has been done so far. This has given another issue for Sr. BJP leader Ram Naik to gain some mileage. The leader says that the BJP will protest if the new voters list is not made public soon. Former Minister and Sr. BJP Leader Ram Naik and BJP State President Gopal Shetty convened a press conference to announce the plans of the party to agitate the delay in making the news voter’s list public. They said that the 2004 list had several blunders with genuine voters finding their names missing in the list. The party conducted a study of Mumbai’s 34 and Thane’s 6 State Assembly constituencies They found out that out of the 18 lakh 2 thousand 8 hundred and 77 voters, there were 3 lakh 80 thousand 4 hundred and 61 voters’s registration was done twice. This was brought to election commission’s notice by state BJP on 29 April and 31 May. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the election commission assured that the new list will be made public by 31 July and an enquiry will be done in the allegations of double registration of voters. However, on 30 July when Ram Naik enquired, the election commission said that they need more time. Ram Naik said that they want the list out so that it can be studied and any mistake can be brought to the attention of the election commission when there is time for correction.
