The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is going to install 250 web cameras at sensitive polling stations to ensure transparency in elections. NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata informed the same to senior leaders of BJP and Shiv Sena who had come to him with their doubts of tampering in the Electronic Voting Machines. While all the political parties and leaders have geared up for the civic polls, the municipal corporation officials too are busy preparing for the same. The difference is that civic officials are preparing for hassle free polling which is a part of their duty. However, a delegation of BJP and Shiv Sena senior leaders met with NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata with their doubts over the Electronic Voting Machines. The delegation included MP Sanjay Raut, former MP Kirit Somaiya, sena leader Dagdu Sakpal, BJP Leader Suresh Haware and others. Former MP Kirit Somaiya said that the since the EVM machines were brought in from the state, there was doubt of tampering as the memory chip is installed outside the machine as opposed to the machines brought in from the Centre where the chip is installed inside the machine itself. Raising concerns on the voting list, he said that this time the list does not have the photo of the voter and that it was found that 20% of the addresses of voters were incorrect. He expressed the need to install web cameras at polling stations. On the other hand, NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata gave the assurance that there was strict vigilance in the sealing of the machines. Vijay Nahata also informed that 250 web cameras would be installed at polling stations. When asked that like the rationing card squad which will check the authenticity of ration cards produced at the time of voting, will there be a squad for pan card checking, Nahata said they will look into the matter.
