During the weekly press conference, the BMC administration was seen in the defensive when media questioned on the decision of the High Court in regards to the health and hygiene of the cleaning workers of the city. A PIL was filed in the High Court Alleging that BMC failed to provide health and hygiene standards to the cleaning workers exposing them to deadly diseases. In response to the PIL, the High Court stated that if any cleaning worker faces death due to negligence by BMC, then the BMC Commissioner would be held responsible and a criminal case would be registered against him. While it has created fear in the BMC administration, the issue saw them justifying their stance at the weekly press conference. He blamed the cleaning workers for not using the safety equipments provided to them. The BMC Commissioner even said that the population of cleaning workers above the age of 50 was only 20% and that their deaths should not be considered important in the statistics.
