After curtailing supplies to under-construction buildings, swimming pools and gardens, MCGM will tweak supply of every water connection over 100mm diameter in order to tide over the existing shortage. The valves of the water connections will be throttled to reduce supply by 30%, equivalent to the existing water cut in the city. There are about 900 connections with a diameter of over 100 mm or more. However, officials said that the size of the connection will not be the only criterion. With an eye on the crisis the BMC has drawn up a Rs 250 crore proposal under its Sujal Mumbai Abhiyaan with a view to reduce wastage of water. With almost 25% of the water supplied to the city getting lost because of pilferage, the civic body has decided to bring down the theft as far as possible.
