BMC TO MAKE VERTICAL LOTS TO SOLVE CITY’S PARKING PROBLEM

parkingTo ease the vehicle parking problem in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to construct multi-storey car parking lots at six locations. The lots will be constructed at Dadar, Kurla, Borivli and Powai. The civic agency has identified plots for the multi-storey parking lots. Each floor of the lot will accommodate two vehicles. The structure will have at least nine to 25 floors and can accommodate 50 cars. The facility will be fully mechanised. BMC has been forced to take the vertical route owing to serious shortage of parking arrangements in the city. Even as 14 lakh-plus vehicles ply on city streets daily, available parking space in the city can accommodate only 10,000 vehicles. The BMC has already planned to construct 21 underground parking lots and has identified plots for the same. The six plots, identified for multi-storey parking lots, are in BMC’s possession and are reserved for parking purpose as per the Development Plan of 1991. These plots will be developed on the basis of Public-Private-Partnership. Earlier, speaking to NMTV Managing Editor Zeba Warsia spoke on the parking woes with BMC Commissioner Jairaj Pathak. From BMC, with cameraperson Vikrant Baile, Zeba Warsia for NMTV News.
