With the aim of maintaining peace during the time of Thane Lok Sabha by elections, May 22, the day the elections are due has been declared as a public holiday by the state. May 22, the day when the Thane Lok Sabha by polls are to be conducted has been declared as a public holiday so that each citizen can come forward and exercise his right to vote for his candidate. The same was informed by the Thane Collector also the district election officer S S Jhende. Under the NRI Act 1881, this declaration has been made by the Maharashtra state which would be applicable to government, semi-government and private offices. With the aim of avoiding any bogus voting during the elections, the Election Commission has started the scheme of issuing identification papers to the voters. S S Jhende informed that it would be mandatory for voters to carry the identification papers along with them while voting. Thirteen kinds of identification certificates have been permitted for the elections and only those voters having the requisite documents would be give the right to vote.
