Bollywood’s 100 crore Queen Deepika Padukone

Born on January 5, 1986 to Ujjala and former badminton Champion Prakash Padukone, Deepika Padukone is an Indian model and actress. Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and raised in Banagalore from where her family hails. She educated at Bangalore’s Sophia High School, and completed her pre-university education at Mount Carmel College. In 2004, she began a full-time career as a model and soon gained recognition with a television commercial for the soap Liril.

Deepika Padukone’s fame increased when she appeared in a highly popular print campaign for the 2006 Kingfisher Calendar. Her next recognition was when she featured in the music video for Himesh Reshammiya’s song “Naam Hai Tera.After taking a course from Anupam Kher’s film academy, she was chosen by Farah Khan to star in Om Shanti Om against Shah Rukh Khan. The movie was a huge commercial success.
Prior to Om Shanti Om, she made her big screen debut with Aishwarya, a Kannada film. After Om Shanti Om, however, Deepika Padukone didn’t deliver any major hits despite big releases. In movies like Bachna Ae Haseeno, Chandni Chowk To China, Love Aaj Kal, Karthik Calling Karthik, Housefull, Lafangey Parindey, Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Deepika’s performance and movies both received lukewarm response. Saif Ali Khan Cocktail marked a significant turning point in her career. Critics particularly praised Deepika Padukone’s performance.

Cocktail earned Deepika Padukone Best Actress nominations at several award ceremonies. Soon after Cocktail, Deepika Padukone’s career took off with a roller coaster ride of Rs. 100 Crore hits. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Happy New Year made her the new queen of the Rs. 100 Crore club. In 2014, Padukone featured briefly opposite Rajinikanth in the Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan, a period drama that was shot using motion capture technology She was widely praised for her performance in the satire Finding Fanny. Deepika Padukone shares a close bond with her family, and visits them regularly in her hometown of Bangalore.

She has been romantically linked to Ranbir Kapoor, Siddharth Mallya and now Ranveer Singh. Her off-screen life is the subject of fervent tabloid reporting in India. Alongside her acting career, Padukone participates in stage shows, has written columns for an Indian newspaper, and is a prominent celebrity endorser for brands and products.
