Bombay High Court to set up panel to monitor old waste facilities

The Bombay High Court had some strong words for the state government and BMC over the handling of the two polluting dumps at Deonar and Mulund. “The recent incident of fire at Deonar shows that the fundamental right of the citizens of Mumbai to a pollution-free environment is completely breached,” they said, while dictating their judgment in open court.

The court also said that it it would set up a committee to monitor Mumbai’s oldest existing waste facility.

The court asked government pleader Abhinandan Vagyani and senior advocate S U Kamdar, representing the BMC, to submit a list of names for the proposed panel to monitor the Deonar dump.
