As Navi Mumbailars tread with cautious optimism amid inflation and increasing prices of commodities, Diwali for NMMC workers is likely to brighten with bonuses. Sana Warsia met NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata for details on the bonuses given to employees this year. Every year Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation gives Diwali bonuses to its employees after an approval is received from the NMMC General Body Meet. An increment in the bonuses is also decided before it is sanctioned by the General Body. However with the Election Code of Conduct in process during the Diwali season, the NMMC employees who got the ex-gratia cheques deposited with their bank on Thursday are likely to get the cash of Rs 9,650 per employee on Friday, leaving very short time for the staffers to make preparations for the festival day. Also, with the election code of conduct, the Diwali bonus as same as last year Rs 9600. At present NMMC has 2353 permanent employees out of which 1400 are NMMT workers and 550 of the education committee. It also a double festivity for the contract employees of NMMC who would be given Rs 3200 in cash. NMMC has a total of 3500 contract employees. The schedule for the state assembly polls was announced over a month ago and the code of conduct will remain in force till October 25. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
