Young Navi Mumbaikars are reaching new heights in the field of sports. Navi Mumbai News Correspondent Milind Tambe spoke to sports stars who have brought laurels to the city. The Indian Kabaddi Team who participated in the South Asian Federation Competition held at Colombo, Sri Lanka made a winning impact in the competition. Not many know that 19 years old Abhilasha Mhatre, a member of the Kabaddi team is a resident of Darave, Navi Mumbai. The fact that she has been selected for the national kabaddi team at this age is in itself a praiseworthy achievement. More so as there are just two girls in the national kabaddi team from Maharashtra. Abhilasha has excelled in this school when she was studying in 7th Std. Trained by the Chembur Sports Club, Abhilasha won a gold medal at SAF Competition. So far, she has won 8 gold medals and 2 silver medals. Speaking to Navi Mumbai News, Abhilasha says that she wants to do popularize this sport in future. The inspiration for Abhilasha comes from her parents who are kabaddi players too. Navi Mumbai News spoke to the parents whose daughter has done the city proud. On the other hand, Amit Pandey – a student of Karmveer Bhaurao Patil College at Vashi and Sanil Pujari – a student of MGM College have won medals in a national Yoga event. The duo participated in the All India Yogasan Championships organized jointly by the Karnatak Yog Association and Indian Yoga Federation. Sanil Pujari stood 3rd all over India while Amit Pandey stood 5th. The competition was conducted between 18th August to 20th Agust in Karnataka. Nearly 1500 students from all over India participated in the event.
