Budget Session: Oppn walks out twice on issue of loan waiver for farmers

The Opposition in the legislative assembly staged a walk out in the house during the statements made by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and State Agriculture Minister Eknath Khadse on loan waiver for farmers. The opposition protested twice over this.

Replying to the demand for a complete loan waiver, Khadse said, “Despite the Rs 70,000-crore loan waiver by the previous government in 2008, the number of farmer suicide cases have increased. The number was highest in 2012. Are you giving a guarantee that suicides will stop after a fresh loan waiver?”

Former CM Prithviraj Chavan from the Congress claimed that the loan waiver announced during the UPA government had a good effect and pointed out that the highest number of farmer suicides in the state were in 2015. The Opposition then walked out in protest.
