The building standing at plot no. 4 in sector 26A Kopri village is a fine example of irregularities prevailing under the nose of NMMC’s Encroachment department and the Town Planning Office. The said plot is reserved under the Gaothan development scheme for a residential plot but what exists today is a commercial building. This building is one of the many structures that are no less than the identifying landmarks of this section of Palm Beach Road but beneath the glass facades there are many violations in this project. Known as “Bajrang Furniture”, this building built on Plot No. 4, the building belongs to Kheemji Deva Patel and his partners. While NMMC Town Planning Office, like any project on 12.5% gaothan plot, has granted 85% residential 15% commercial use of the building, today the entire building is being used as a commercial complex. NMMC Assistant Director of the Town Planning Office Sanjay Banait confesses that the building has not been granted permission for 100% commercial use. Shockingly, the NMMC Town Planning Office has even granted the building Occupancy Certificate despite the violations. However, Sanjay Banait defends the same.
