The crime branch of Thane police has busted a gang that allegedly specialized in duping banks and financial institutions by furnishing fabricated documents. One of the three accused in the case is a Republican Party of India (Khobragade) candidate contesting from Thane parliamentary constituency. According to additional commissioner of police Prashant Burde, the Thane police have booked RPI (K) candidate Bernadshaha Nadar alias Thomas along with Sachin Oberoi for abetting Gajanan Kamble alias Dinkar Venkat Swami for duping several banks, financial institutions and individuals. The three allegedly duped banks and financial institutions to the tune of Rs 42.71 lakh. The gang was busted by officials of the Bhiwandi crime unit II, who were investigating a case of cheating lodged by one Nashik resident Rahul Mahale against Dinkar Venkat Swami at Shantinagar police station. The police managed to track down Swami at Khopar Khairne in Navi Mumbai, where he was running a shop of selling old vehicles. He did not answer to the name Swami and said that his name is Dinkar Kamble. Police found that Kamble previously worked as a recovery agent and hence was well versed with sale, purchase of second-hand vehicles and obtaining vehicle loans. Kamble procured a false pan card and ration card in the name of Dinkar Venkat Swami from RPI (K) candidate Nadar and Sachin Oberoi. Oberoi holds a diploma in computers and is a computer expert.
