sastics1National Sample survey organisation field operations division of Belapur celebrated Statistics day at CGO Complex in Belapur. The day is celebrated in recognition of late Professor PC Mahalanobis, a statistician, who has immensely contributed in the field of Economic Planning and statistical development in the post independence era. 29th June is every year celebrated as the Statistics Day by the Indian Government to observe the 116th birth anniversary of Prof PC Mahalanobis, a great statistician. The objective of this day is to create public awareness and draw inspiration from Prof Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio econimic planning and policy formulation. The professor established the National Sample survey in 1950 which still remains as the premier agency of the Government of India for collection of basic statistics. He is also the founder of Indian Statistical institute, which was declared as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ by an Act of Indian Parliament. On this day the NSSO at CBD Belapur celebrated the statistics day at CGO complex. Various competitions such a debate competition, drawing competitions and for award distribution ceremony was also held.
