CENTRE EXTENDS E GOVERNANCE TO CITIES HAVING A POPULATION OF 5 LAKH

e-governer-1Getting birth certificates, payment of utility bills and property tax will now be far more easier in cities having a population of five lakh and more, with the Centre deciding to extend its e-governance programme. Now you can get birth certificates, pay utility bills and property tax sitting comfortably at home, with just a click of the button. The Centre deciding to extend its e-governance programme in cities having a population of five lakh or more. So far, the facility was limited to cities having a population of 10 lakh and above. The Urban Development Ministry’s National Mission Mode Project on e-governance in municipalities aims at improving operational efficiencies and promoting transparency and accountability in delivery of eight different types of municipal services. The proposal is to extend the project to 28 more cities having a population of 5 lakh and above apart from the present 65 cities with a population of 10 lakh and above. In the beginning, NMMP on e-governance was implemented in 35 cities having population of above 10 lakh as per 2001 census under JNNURM.
