robberyResidents of sector 12, Vashi woke up to an unusual start as nearly 15 members of the ‘Chaddi Baniyan’ gang attacked two flats on the first floor of plot no 127 in the early hours of the morning. To everybody’s surprise, the gang members beat up the watchmen when the alert staff of the area raised an alarm. Around 4.15 in the morning, a commotion was heard outside by the residents. They saw that some men wearing shorts and vests were beating up the watchmen in the area. One of them even threw a stone at a window facing the building. The men were carrying black bags. One of the three watchmen who was beaten and suffered injuries stated that they first went to the first floor of the building with the intention to steal. They broke the locks of the two flats but could not loot much as a lot of chaos was created. However, the 12-15 men attacked the watchmen fiercely. The owners of the two flats had gone out of station for the long weekend and were expected on Tuesday evening. We spoke with one of the resident whose flat was broken into. Residents filed a police complaint in this regard at the Vashi Police Station. However, when we tried to speak with the officials at the station, they refused to comment on camera. This particular type of gang’s modus operandi was to wear shorts and banyans while committing robbery. A police chowkie has been built in the area, but hardly anyone can see a police constable stationed their. Residents voiced their insecurity and the failure of the police to safeguard them.
