CHECK YOUR AIR TRAVEL PLANS – AIRPORT’S MAIN RUNWAY HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN FOR 15 DAYS

c-1The Mumbai International Airport Ltd. has stated in a release that from Oct 11 to Oct 25, the main runway would be shut down for post monsoon repair work, increasing possibilities of flight delays. As till October 25 for five-and-a-half hours daily, about 190 flights will have the relatively less efficient secondary runway for use as the main runway will be closed for post-monsoon repair work. What this means is that about 20,000 passengers of those flights to and from Dubai, London, Delhi and Bangalore, among other cities, may have to put up with some inconvenience. While the MIAL claims that there won’t be any significant delays as flight operations will be carried out on the secondary runway 14-32, this would be the first time that work would be carried out on such a large scale especially when Mumbai airport handles about 30% of 650 flights between 10.30 am and 4 pm. While the Mumbai International Airport is still hoping that the post monsoon repair work do not obstruct flight, it is highly impossible. So if you are planning to catch an afternoon flight to or from Mumbai airport in the next two weeks, it would be sensible to factor in a delay of about an hour or so if you don’t want your schedule to go haywire.
