CHIEF MINISTER ASHOK SETS DEADLINE MAY 20 DEADLINE FOR MCGM AND MMRDA BATTLES

Even as Chief Minister Ashok Chavan tried to get all the agencies to work together to make the city monsoon-ready before the rains hit the city, the war between MCGM and MMRDA continued, prompting Chavan to ask them to immediately call a truce and complete the works before May 20. Arguments between Mayor Dr. Shubha Raul and Metropolitan Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad broke out again at the meeting, Mantralaya sources said. Chavan asked the two agencies to bury their differences and then set the deadline. Dr. Raul said that during an inspection, she found 11 culverts clogged by utility cables and pipes, which could prevent flow of rainwater during monsoon. Dr. Raul had last week inspected roads that had been in the possession of the MMRDA until recently. The MMRDA has been working on improvement of 18 road corridors, including the Eastern and Western Express Highways.
