Against the backdrop of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s demand for additional portfolio for NCP in the Maharashtra ministry, top leaders of Congress and its ally met Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar at his residence in South Mumbai. The parties have agreed to continue with the 2009 formula of 23 : 20 with Congress getting 23 berths in the state cabinet. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan seems to know the trick of the political trade too well. He has managed the to get the NCP Chief Sharad Pawar’s nod to continue with the 2009 formula for Congress and NCP of 23 : 20. The Chief Minister along with State Congress Chief Manikrao Thakre, Mumbai Unit President Kripashankar Singh met Sharad Pawar along with Ajit Pawar, State NCP Chief Madhukar Pichad and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. After the 90 minute meeting Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had his way while Ajit Pawar had to go back on his demand of 21 seats for NCP.
