CHIEF MINISTER PRITHVIRAJ CHAVAN PLAY MARATHI CARD TO DEFUSE MNS AND SHIV SENA MARATHI CAMPAIGN

cm-pritiviraj-chavan-1Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is all set to play the Marathi card, to rein in the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and to placate the Shiv Sena. Barely a fortnight into office, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has realized that language is a sensitive issue in politics. He has taken the Marathi department directly under his control, to promote and propagate the language. The MNS has been reaping rich electoral dividends by cleverly marketing the Marathi manoos agenda. In the 2009 assembly elections, the MNS bagged 13 seats, much to the dismay of the Shiv Sena, from which it had broken away. Moreover, in the recent Kalyan-Dombivali elections, the MNS won 27 of the 107 seats, emerging as the second largest group in the civic body. The Congress faired a poor third, with only 15 seats.
