CHUNABHATTI IS THE FASTEST BUILT COMMUTERS RAILWAY STATION OF MUMBAI

choonabhatti-1Trains are the lifeline of Mumbai. Hence it comes as know surprise that one railway station has been the record of the other to become the fastest built railway station. This is the railway station that beat Churchgate Railway Station’s record to become the fastest built commuter’s railway station. It is known as Chunabhatti and falls on the harbor line. This railway station has taken only 6 months to be constructed and thrown open for commuters. And the railway station has a royal history too. In the year 1954, during the parliamentary elections, Krishna Menon had contested from Chunabhatti. At that time, during a rally the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru had promised voters that if Menon won, there will be a railway station built in Chunabhatti. When Krishna Menon won and become Defense Minister, the project of building the Chunabhatti Railway Station was undertaken in full swing and built in merely 6 months. It was inaugurated in the year 1959-60 and was named as Chunabhatti Railway Station. The area gets the name as Chunabhatti for chuna stands for “lime” and bhatti for “kiln”.
