CIDCO CARRIES OUT A MASSIVE DRIVE AND DEMOLISHES ENCROACHMENT AT VASHI RAILWAY STATION

CIDCO-Demo-1Carrying out an intensive demolition drive, CIDCO razed down the illegal extensions that had mushroomed at Vashi Railway station. There are around 56 kiosks near the station that had illegally extended their premises by bamboos and sheds. After receiving a notice from the Chief Health Officer of CIDCO on 14th February 2008, the drive was carried out. Present during the demolition was the Additional Collector of CIDCO, V N Kalam Patil who gave more information on the demolition. There was strict police security while the drive was carried out to avoid any mishappenings. NMMC too backed the drive with the presence of Vashi ward officer, Balkrishna Patil. Agitated shop-owners spoke with Navi Mumbai News and accused CIDCO of corruption, biasness and discrimination. They further added that without any place to sit, customers would not come at eateries and they were ready to accept designed seating plans if CIDCO had any. If kiosks and eateries owners are complaining and accusing CIDCO, there is reason for this. For over a decade all eateries have made illegal extensions but CIDCO has taken action only after malls have come up in the vicinity of the railway station. Had CIDCO checked illegal extensions immediately when they came, they would not have been blamed to come under the influence of the rich and influential builders of the malls.
