CIDCO slaps eviction notices on 490 illegal structures in entire Navi Mumbai

CIDCO has slapped eviction notices on 490 illegal structures that have cropped up on its land in the entire Navi Mumbai Commissionerate area. It has warned prospective home buyers to refrain from any property dealings in these constructions and said the city planner will not be held responsible for the consequences.

After serving vacation notices, CIDCO has hitherto demolished 30 such structures in the last few months.

CIDCO said action will soon be initiated against the remaining constructions as per HC directives. Uran has topped the list of encroachments with 120 such structures whereas neaighbouring Ulwe node stands second with 80 illegal constructions.

The town planning body has been carrying out a survey to update its data on illegal constructions.

“There have been illegal constructions going on in Navi Mumbai and NAINA areas without relevant permissions from the authorities. We appeal to the residents to make enquiries with the nodal agency about the properties they want to buy,” said S S Patil, chief Controller of Unauthorized Constructions,CIDCO.

The eviction notices were issued in phases between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017. Meanwhile, after facing flak from the High Court. CIDCO also initiated a demolition drive against 30 illegal structures with police protection. The remaining illegal structures are to be razed in the coming days as a compliance report has to be submitted in the HC.

“We have prepared a fresh schedule to crack down on the illegal structures from August 22, subject to availability of protection from the police department. Meanwhile, around 30 structures out of the 490 have been brought down,” said P B Rajput, Controller of Unauthorized Constructions, CIDCO.

The ones that have been razed include 6 in Rabale-Gothivali, 10 in Belapur, 4 in Kharghar, 1 in Kalamboli and 9 in New Panvel.
