One of the most awaited development projects for residents of New Panvel has finally taken off. After years and years of complaints and appeals, CIDCO has started the work of constructing an over-bridge at Sector 5 of New Panvel. The over bridge was the demand of locals who had to commute through railway tracks. The project will cost CIDCO Rs. 44 Crores. NMTV News had always highlighted how commuters using the Khanda New Panvel crossing face a very dicey situation while crossing through the railway tracks everyday. With the crossing very often used by the students of the nearby school to reach either side, it made it all the more important for authorities to look into it and find a constructive solution. The Khanda New Panvel railway crossing is the only way through, which one can reach Khanda colony at New Panvel. However, despite the fact that the number of commuters using this route has multiplied over the years authorities have taken cognizance of the danger that the present situation poses. Every time one wants to cross to the other side of the road, it is a must that one crosses these railway tracks. However, whenever there is a train passing through these tracks, the motorists are stopped from crossing. This consumes a lot of time, on several occasions even more than an hour. Many commuters who do not wish to waste their time, thus, choose the only alternative and that is crossing the tracks even by skating through; below the shutter. These commuters do not realize the danger of crossing the tracks this way and there is no guard to stop them as well. Finally, authorities have acknowledged the gravity and magnitude of the danger and problem. CIDCO has decided to build over-bridge and the projected cost for it is Rs. 44 Crores. The project is expected to be completed within 2 yrs time, informed CIDCO Executive Engineer of the project. The engineer informed us that the work is on full swing and would solve the problem in coming time, as nearly 62 trains every day passes from here, perhaps causing delay to office people. This project is done in collaboration with the railways. He also explained the structure of the over bridge. Now the commuters’ only hope is that CIDCO and Railways will complete the project on time.
