In order to provide relief to the citizens from deluge, MCGM has under Its Brimstowad project, begun with its work from Haji Ali to Irla. By May 2009, pumping stations would be operating at these two places. This would reduce water logging at Mumbai Central, Chinchpokli, Byculla, Haji ali, Mahalakshmi and also Andheri, Jogeshwari and Santacruz. The 14 huge pumps at these two places would help in the proper flow of water. Six pumps would be installed in Haji Ali. Each pump has the capacity of pumping out 6000 liters of water into the sea per second. The eight pumps installed at Irla would divert 48000 accumulated liters of water into the sea. Around Rs 1200 crores have been allotted for this project out of which first installment of Rs 400 crore has been funded to MCGM. Around 142 crores would be spent for these two pumping stations.
