CITY DOCTOR BLAMES GOVERNMENT FOR HYPING SWINE FLU WHILE MANY MORE DIE OF MALARIA, DENGUE AND LEPTO EVERY DAY

city-drReacting to the state’s decision of Swine flu as an epidemic, Dr Jay Kumar Dikshit – a city diabetologist says that its insensitivity on part of the state to ignore deaths every year from grave diseases like malaria, dengue and leptospirosis which is an issue of concern. In a press conference held in Mumbai, Dr Jay Kumar Dikshit – a city doctor criticized the government for declaring Pune and Satara as epidemic areas in lieu of Swine flu. According to him, media has hyped the issue after which Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan declared the disease as an epidemic in Pune and Satara. But neither the Government not the MCGM is concerned about the deaths taking place due to grave diseases like malaria and dengue which is a matter of concern. While swine flu does require needed attention, there is much hype that has been created around the dreaded disease. Some experts believe that the hype has been done on purpose prior to state elections to divert attention from serious issues like inflation, farmer suicides and debts of the state.
