CITY GEARS UP FOR NAVRATRI AND DURGA POOJA

navratri-1From one grand festival, the city is well on its way to the other. Navratri is going to grace Navi Mumbai and the streets are gearing up to fill with lights and music of joy. Navratri is a nine-day celebration, which revolves around the worshipping of Goddess Durga. The 9 nights festival of Navratri begins on the first day of Ashwina of the bright fortnight. Seeds are sown, sprouting is watched, the planets are consecrated, and on the 8th and 9th days, Goddess Durga, Vijayashtami and Mahanavami are worshipped. The Devi Mahatmya and other texts invoking the Goddess who vanquished demons are cited. Ten nights the followers indulge in massive celebrations with the traditional garbha. However, the joys of the festival are no longer limited to the Durga devotees only. Today people from every religion and caste are seen in the Dandiya fields, enjoying the action in full swing. Navi Mumbai too was a part of the celebration with vigor no less than any other part of the country. Navi Mumbai News visited a few stops where different bodies organized dandiya raas.
