‘CITY ITSELF IS THE GATEWAY OF INDIA’ SAYS SONIA GANDHI AT CONGRESS RALLY IN MUMBAI

sonia-gandhi-2Sonia Gandhi campaigned for the Congress at MMRDA grounds while Sharad Pawar campaigned for NCP candidates in Thane district on Sunday. Let’s first take a look at the Sonia Gandhi rally from the Bandra Kurla complex. Congress president Sonia Gandhi used the emotive plank to strike a chord with the cosmopolitan crowd. At “the mother of all rallies” — as termed by the Congress leaders in the city — at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Sonia Gandhi described Mumbai as the gateway of India. She trained her guns on the Shiv Sena and the BJP, and also lashed out at Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena for raking up the insider versus outsider issue during the election campaign. The Congress never believes in politics based on caste, religion and community, she said. Sonia Gandhi also stated that she saluted the people of Mumbai for their perseverance and resolved to fight back crisis and get back their smile. She said that had it been any other place, it would have taken several years to return to normal life. Gripped by nostalgia, she admitted that Mumbai held a special place in her heart as it happened to be the birth place of her late husband, Rajiv Gandhi. It was in this city that Mahatma Gandhi had given the clarion call of ‘Karo ya Maro’, she added. The rally at MMRDA Grounds was significant as it set the final stage for the crucial six seats of Mumbai and 4 seats of Thane polling on April 30. Before signing off, Sonia Gandhi exhorted the Mumbaikars to realize the limitations of the regional forces and back the Congress, which alone can make them feel secure at home and give them political stability at the Centre.
